Choose an exterior wash when the main job is dirt on the outside. Start with interior cleaning for a messy cabin. Consider a full detail when both need attention, then compare the actual work included.
Start with the problem, not the package name
A car with road film on the doors and a tidy cabin has a different job waiting than a car with pet hair, spills, and dirty wheels. Write down the two or three things you want changed. That short list is more useful to a provider than asking for the biggest package.
A full detail combines interior and exterior care, but the name does not define a standard checklist. It does not automatically mean paint correction, a ceramic coating, or every possible stain treatment. Ask the business to describe its scope in writing.
Choose the closest starting point
- Outside dirt is the main concern: ask about an exterior wash, including which wheel, tire, glass, and drying steps are included.
- Crumbs, pet hair, or a spill are the main concern: ask about interior cleaning and describe the affected material and area.
- Both the cabin and outside need care: compare full-detail packages by their included tasks.
- Swirl marks or paint haze are the main concern: discuss a paint inspection and correction separately; a wash is not the same work.
Compare the scope on equal terms
Send each business the same vehicle details, condition notes, and priorities. Ask whether wheels, glass, seat treatment, and protection are included or separate. For stains or odor, describe the source if you know it and ask what can be assessed before work begins.
Confirm the service location, expected handover time, drying needs, and any additional work that requires your approval. A lower quote with fewer tasks may still be the right choice, but only when those are the tasks you actually want.
A useful request to send
“I have a sedan with road grime outside and pet hair on the rear seats. The paint finish is not my priority. Please explain the wash and interior steps you recommend, what costs extra, and when the car will be ready to use.” Adapt the details to your car rather than selecting treatments you do not need.
